FAQ

Questions people usually ask.

Does it work in every Mac app?

Yes. Press ⌥ Space in any text field, whether it’s Mail, Slack, Notion, Chrome, Xcode, WhatsApp, Figma or anything else, and the text appears wherever your cursor is. It’s also copied to your clipboard.

Does my voice leave my Mac?

No. Transcription, text cleanup and speaker identification run on your Mac, and your history and meetings are encrypted on disk. The cloud is only used if you connect your own OpenAI key.

Does it work offline?

Yes. The NVIDIA Parakeet and Apple engines transcribe on your Mac, with no connection. Only the optional OpenAI engine needs internet.

How does it transcribe meetings?

It records your microphone and the call audio separately, identifies who is speaking and hands you the decisions and action items. It works with Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, Slack and FaceTime with no bot joining the call, and exports to Markdown.

Does it spell names and work jargon correctly?

Yes. Add names, brands and acronyms to your vocabulary and WaveVoice always writes them the same way. It also removes filler words like “um” and adds punctuation.

What do I need to run WaveVoice?

A Mac with Apple silicon running macOS 26 or later. The app is available in English, Spanish and French.

Is WaveVoice free?

Yes, and it stays that way. Your first week is fully unlimited; after that you can keep using it free with dictations and recordings of up to 10 seconds. To remove the limit, pay CA$15 once and it’s yours forever, no subscription. If you pick the OpenAI engine, OpenAI bills its usage to your own key.

What changes after the first week?

Nothing gets locked: WaveVoice keeps working for free, but each dictation and each recording is limited to 10 seconds. The one-time CA$15 payment removes the limit for good.
